Lack of Patriotism, As the Greatest impediment to Nation Growth and Development

What is Patriotism?

Patriotism could be seen as a factor of dedication, devotion to and vigorous support for one's Country/Homeland. 

It is also the feeling of love, devotion and sense of attachment to one's country. This attachment could come in form of language, passion, desire to make positive impact, cultural and historical aspects of one's Homeland.

In other words, one is said to be patriotic when he or she is in love with his native land or country (ie When one loves his/her country above self).

The big Question now remain.

Are you in love with your Country??

If citizens cannot be bold enough to "Yes" to the above, or cannot see anything in their country to make them be in love (Patriotic) with their country. Note that the said country is still very far from growth and development.

According to Staub (1997), there are to main division of Patriotism as follows: Blind Patriotism and Constructive Patriotism.

Patriotism which is also the ability of prioritizing your Homeland more than any other and being proud of it.

These questions then remain unanswered;

1. How much do you love your Country??

2. Are really proud of your Country??

3. Are you ready to die for your country??

4. To see your country develop, what have been your contributions ???

If the answers to these questions are "NO" or "Nothing" know that you really are not patriotic, no two ways about it.

All major problems nations face, ranging from: 

1. Insecurity.

2. Bad Leaders/Politicians who loot their country resources for their personal gain.

3. Citizens involvement in Corrupt Practices.

4. Citizens boycotting elections.

5. Citizens not paying their taxes regularly, etc.

All the above mentioned could all be traced to Lack of Patriotism from the citizens.

Lack of Patriotism is the greatest impediment that can forstall or thwart countries of their efforts towards growth and development. Nations in their ranks and files should prioritize installing/building patriotic spirits in the lives of her citizenry..

Failure to do so, can destroy all it have been putting/building in area of development in seconds.

Building patriotic citizens should be a must do for Nation leaders, for what a person loves, he keeps very well. When people love their country; they keep, pray and do all within their power on a daily basis to see to the development of their country. More especially, they keep asking themselves what and how the could contribute their little quota to see their Nation grow.

Mind you, the leaders we have today were once followers (part of the masses). Leaders can make their followers patriotic by being one. 

To get things right with the future uncorrupted generation, we must advocate and campaign for a more patriotic citizenry today.

Citizens who love their country could go any length, even to the point of giving up their lives as seen in #Ukraine today to fight for their country at all cost.

An increase in Patriotism will see to the reduction of corruption because at this point what citizens think and do is for the growth and development of their country. 

I encourage all to prioritize love for one's country because your Homeland remains the one and only place you can call home no matter how good or bad it is today. Always be proud of it, that the first step then find ways to make it better.

Let's recall the story in the Bible, about the Great Tower of Babel. God himself on seeing the live and unity that exists among the people, was quite afraid to what they could achieve with it.

Against all odds, the growth and development of any Nation lies on her citizenry, nobody else could do that for them except themselves (citizens).

Patriotism over the years has been a major requirements for growth and development.

Let's build love above self for our countries today and together make the world a better place.
